I am a relative nexcomer to digital photography; well, to most photography really. Unless you count snapshotting as photography.(Geez, i was going to ask if that was a real word—because you have to pay the unreal ones extra, you know—so I googled it and got almost 40,000 hits! ("googled" gets close to 1.7 million!) so I suppose that makes it real enough for scale wages.)
But I digress. (Which I do, and since this is my photo blog, or phlog, not a writing blog, I will...digress I mean. trivia: phlog gets 50,000 google hits. See what I mean about digressing?)
My point for being here is educational...for me. I am a writer who's just getting serious about photography. I want a place where I can post photos and, with any luck, be able to watch my work improve over time. With any luck, I'll get some feedback, because it's easier to learn when you have teachers, however informal and transitory they may be. Expect to see lots of photos of flora, fauna, and food and not so many faces.
I'd also like to discuss photography-related topics...once I have some visitors, that is—I can talk to myself just fine without a phlog. Focus, in or out; macro or micro; candid or studio; flash or kid-in-sink-holding-light? Opinions are good, so feel free to share yours.
PhlogNote: The "self-portrait" is deliberately not the greatest for two reasons: first, there are few photos of me in existence and I wanted one to start with and secondly, I really wanted a lame shot to start with so I had pretty much nowhere to go but up.
As for the banner, I see it as a fair representation of the phlog. There's some food (that's blueberry habanero chutney on the chopstick), some flora (if a dead tree counts), a bit of improvisation (like the twist-tie as marker?) and a sense of anticipation. Seems like a fair place to start.

I love this photo!

It's about as close to a photo of me as is ever likely to make it onto the site. While not exactly in the 'black box steals souls' category, I really prefer not to do widespread distribution of photos of myself. And you can't get much wider than the Internet.
